The River People
As a church, it is important that we take the gospel to our neighbors and the nations. Unfortunate as it is, nearly 2,000 years after Jesus gave the Great Commission to the church to make disciples among all nations, many people groups in the world have yet to hear the name of Jesus. We believe it is a matter of obedience, as a church, to be involved in taking the gospel to an unreached people group (UPG). A people group is considered unreached when there is no indigenous community of believing Christians able to engage them with church planting.
The pastors and the Mission Committee have recommended that we, Cave Spring Baptist Church, adopt the River People as our unreached people group. 135,000 River People live in a mountainous area of Asia. They possess their own unique language, customs, and ethnic identity distinct from those living around them. They are polytheists, meaning they believe in many gods. They believe that the earth, sky, water, fire, mountains, stones, etc., have their own spirits. They also worship their ancestors.
